Employers are obliged to only keep Data that is necessary and for as long as is necessary.
This is not as simple as it sounds. Certain data, employers are obliged to keep it for a very long period of time. For example, accident records and health and safety risk assessments.
Employees are entitled to see their data and this right is often exercised by employees during disputes.
Much to the frustration of employers, employees do not need a good reason to request a copy of their data.
Within reason, they are entitled to request and receive a copy if and when they want.
