How much will I get ?
Claims can be about lots of things, not just 'unfair dismissal'.
An adjudicator does have a good bit of discretion how much to award for certain claims.
For 'unfair dismissal', compensation is for financial loss suffered as a result of you losing your job. It is not intended as a punishment to your employer for dismissing you.
As this case illustrates, if you get an equivalent job fairly soon after dismissal, your compensation may not be much.
You have to show efforts to mitigate your loss, in other words, that you tried to get another job. If you do not do that, your compensation will likely be reduced.
This case is just about 'unfair dismissal'. Is a good one to read then if you want to understand this issue. As it is quite straightforward and illustrative.
